Outsourcing Makes You Feel Good

When I started TOTAL PA in November 2019, I wanted to do everything myself, my website, my accounts, my marketing and social media, the list goes on. I was going to do it all. 5 months on, I had a light bulb moment, and like many business owners reading this, I realised that I couldn’t do it all and if I was intent on doing it all something was going to suffer or be done poorly and when your business is your baby, you want it to be perfect, don’t you?

How ridiculous is it that I set up a business that promotes outsourcing and then tried to do everything myself? That goes against the entire principle!

I pondered for many a morning, noon and night wondering if outsourcing was the best decision for me and my business, I am a little bit of a control freak and the words “by the time I have explained to someone what I want and how I want it to look, I could have done it myself” rang through my head countless times. I understand that delegating is not easy, and it is hard to let go. I had found myself in my client’s shoes before they made the decision to use TOTAL PA to support them with their business administration.

This month, I wrote a list of areas that needed work, I came across this blog and it made me think long and hard about whether I could outsource it or do it myself. I decided to outsource the bits that I did not love doing, and because I did not love them, I allowed myself to be too busy to dedicate the time they needed.

WOW! It felt good – an instant relief and a feeling of empowerment that I was making the right decision to move my business in the direction it needed to go. I had more time to concentrate on what I love about my business, and for me, that is supporting my clients.

Whether you are considering outsourcing to free up some of your precious time or whether you need to outsource because you need a professional or someone with more experience do a job for you, there is some fantastic talent out there. You do not need to spend hours and hours getting to grips with something that is not your forte. Your time is much better spent concentrating on what your good at. Imagine how many more contacts you could make; leads you could generate or deals you could close in the hours it would take you getting your head around something you just don’t need to.

My tips before you decide to outsource –

1. Decide what you want to outsource
2. Write a full brief of what you want and expect
3. Do your research to find the right person/people for the job (it will not be hard to find them; the right people always stand out from the crowd).
4. Have some conversations before you decide to commit. You do not need to rush into a decision, it needs to feel right.
In a nutshell, my job as a Virtual Assistant means I promote outsourcing in business so why wouldn’t I practice what I preach? I have and it feels good!
